Yes, there have been gripes about songs in Volume II that should have been in Vol. I; fine... move on.Once again, clean and clear transcriptions of many important tunes you need to know with melody lines included and "arrangement" suggestions on many... We usually just go AABA, but sometimes that is not the convention.I'm debating buying Vol. III at this point. Between the first and second volume, you pretty much have most everything you'll ever need. But, you'll get that band leader who will pull tunes out of what surely will be in the third volume, right?I teach Bass and Guitar, too. So I have these because they are valuable teaching aids. But I still use them for performance, too. Post It notes on the pages of the songs needed for the given gig keep things organized. Hopefully, the band leader won't change the key, right? But, if you know how to transpose on the fly, you'll be fine.Tip: Take the songs you most often play and convert them to intervals instead of "key" dependent using notation paper. Create your own notebook of "independent" transcriptions of the songs. That way you'll be playing using charts with the intervalic references and transposing won't be the issue any longer.

What I love most about this book is its design. Veterans know that fake books are frequently a combination of handwritten, poorly-photocopied, cut-and-pasted, inconsistently-sized charts along with chord naming conventions that go all over the place (an E minor chord can read as Em, e, E-, etc. in the same book.)The Real Book series (besides the advantage of excellent songs acquired with the proper rights) has a wonderful design. The staff lines are a consistent size; there is one song per page (or sometimes two pages, laid out so there's no flipping involved); chord naming conventions are consistent (it's "E-" throughout); and there is a lot of white space for a clean, clear look and room to pencil-in performance notes. It's easy and natural to go from one song to another without going through a lot of mental gymnastics and adjustments, as one would do in other fake books.Plus, it's all done in a handwritten-looking font that gives it both a warm, handmade character and the feeling that you've acquired something surreptitious (like every fake book should be)!The only problem is that the key is only indicated in the first measure of the first staff -- sharps and flats are not repeated at the beginning of the lower staffs, so it's sometimes a little hard to quickly remind yourself of what key you're in. Still, I'm having lots of fun with this.

Great compliment to the Volume I edition, as is Volume lll, which I have as well. I do entertaining at retirement homes and with these three books have all you could ask for in performing the great American song book.

As textbooks go, this one is remarkably readable and funny. Plenty of funny stories and witty asides, but also a thorough coverage of American law as it pertains to business, both in the abstract and in plenty of real-life court cases. Easily the least painful textbook of your semester.

I really enjoyed this book. Rather than reading a whole bunch of blah, blah, blah there were lots of real case examples. The cases were interesting and some included well known companies. I would try to "skim" through the material, but I couldn't do it because I would become hooked with the material.Rental was in almost new condition. No highlighting or dog-eared pages. Will definitely rent again!

My book was already falling apart when I recieved it and still is....makes it really hard to do my reading when pages come out. I'll make due for the sake of not paying full price, but was very disappointed

I needed this book for a class I was taking, but when it arrived I noticed that it was tearing at the seams

I read this many years ago, but it left a lasting impression on me. a very terrifying impression. It scared me so much, I don't like clowns to this day.

When I was on a school field trip in the seventh grade, I took Stephen King's "IT" with me to read. The trip was going to be two days in Virginia, and was an example of staying overnight on a school trip. It should have been an adventure. The trip was frankly a waste, but the book was sublime.I'd gotten into reading Stephen King two years before by way of a trip over the previous summer to my uncle's house. He had a collection of Stephen King novels and I'd started reading them with Pet Sematary, which had been adapted to the big screen two years before. In the intervening time, I'd devoured Salem's Lot, Carrie, Firestarter, and Misery, and The Shining. I found a copy of the 1990 TV movie adaptation and watched it. I recognized just how much I figured it had to have been toned down, but it was a decent primer (or so I thought). I felt warmed up and ready for the brick-like tome I'd acquired. I was wrong.Reading the book was like a marathon, and I was prepared for a sprint. I easily identified with the younger versions of the characters, but had trouble with identifying with their adult incarnations. I appreciated the story and the implications of both eras, but entirely missed out on how well crafted the story was. In the end it took three weeks, but I completed the book, considered myself proud for conquering the nearly 1200 page tome, put it on the shelf, and...proceeded to put it out of my mind for nearly twenty five years. Almost, and entirely unintentionally, like the characters in the book...Twenty five years later, I was on a kick of re-reading books I'd read as a kid, and then I approached Stephen King again. In the interim I'd devoured his books and probably thousands of other books by many dozens of different writers of differing skill levels, and when I thought "I should re-read some Stephen King" I thought about it, and it came down to either reading "IT" or "The Stand" and to be honest I felt "IT" was the better book. I remember it being a mountain for an adolescent. I wondered how I'd do this time.It was SO MUCH better than I ever thought it would be!I felt ACHINGLY nostalgic in the sections with the characters as kids. Whereas as a kid I identified with those elements as mapping directly onto my friends and setting, I did it unconsciously. Now I was (at times painfully) aware of it. I longed for the good times and friends of my youth. I appreciated how well King encapsulated the distance between childhood and adulthood and all the roads we travel in between. I reveled in how little we remember accurately about the past and how mutable it can be. I realized that IT was in fact two predators...both the eponymous monster who will kill and devour you, and the predator that robs us of our memories and the clarity we remember having as a kid.The prose is wonderful. King doesn't use mere words to tell stories, he uses meanings themselves, woven seemingly seamlessly into shades of context and pigments of innuendo and occasionally bright, obvious splashes of unobfuscated emotion that jar you because...hey...in real life that's how it works. And in getting that right, King manages to make the impossible elements like the supernatural nature of IT and the relationship IT has with the town of Derry and the inhabitants there...normal. This could have happened. It could be happening. And it's that esoteric dread that King wields masterfully. The implications. The possibilities. Even in the fact that both eras are now, as of 2016, dated (the earlier phase was in the 50's, and the later phase was in the 80's...eerily we would be neck deep in the middle of the next cycle were it coming) was delightful. It was an added layer of nostalgia woven over the rest of the tapestry.If you haven't read this book, read it now. Enjoy it. If you have read it, by all means read it again. It will thrill and delight and horrify and frighten you all over again.

The entire town is affected by evil that lives under the city wreaking its havoc upon the town, but only the children can see It. Seven outcasts form a bond in order to defeat It, deeming themselves The Loser’s Club. It, being a creature from out of this world, takes their greatest nightmares and turns them against each child. Thinking they defeated It as children, they lead a life outside of Derry until the murders start happening again. Twenty-seven years later, The Loser’s Club makes their way back to Derry to defeat the evil once and for all.If you’ve ever read a Stephen King book, you would know his descriptions are vivid and this book is no exception. You wouldn’t believe Derry was a fictional town with the way he describes it. The details make you believe you aren’t just reading about a town, but that you actually have stepped foot right into it. With all the crazy and evil things that happen here, it is not a place I would want to visit. With the way King goes into details, it’s like you are actually in the book right beside the characters as they go through the horrors of every day life of living in Derry. His style definitely works by making you really feel terrified as you read, as if It could actually reach out and grab you at any minute. This is a true horror novel. It is not for the faint at heart. Do not read this at night, especially if you are alone- you will have nightmares. “…she took her washcloth and leaned over the basin to get some water and the voice came whispering out of the drain: ‘Help me….’”-Stephen King, ItI loved the way this book was formatted. It’s not your typical straightforward timeline. The book is split up into 5 parts, alternating between childhood and adulthood in the perspective of every member of The Loser’s Club. Instead of starting out with the childhood perspective, you are thrown right into the perspective of the adults in present-time making you curious as to how each character got to that certain point in their lives. This was an effective writing style making it so you just couldn’t put the book down because you just had to know how everything would come together.Every character King writes is so realistic. You either love them or hate them. I just fell in love with every character that was part of The Loser’s Club. Each had their own personality and quirks and that’s what made you love them even more. They seemed so real; like they could be your friend. Same goes for the bad characters. He writes them so descriptively that you just can’t help but hate them with everything you have. Some characters in this story were so demented. Pennywise (the clown) was so scary and creepy. The descriptors that King uses couldn’t be anymore perfect. Character personality, growth, and development get an A+ from me.“Can an entire city be haunted?”–Stephen King, ItThis novel wouldn’t be what it is without the addition of the Derry Interludes at the end of every part. The interludes, in my opinion, are what made the book so terrifying. They detail all the past horrors that have happened in Derry and have basically been ignored and forgotten. This is where you really see the true evil nature It brings upon this town. I could read an entire novel just on the basis of the history of Derry, Maine. So interesting, yet so horrifying.Now for my dislikes. One thing that bothered me about this whole book of amazingness is the amount of detail. I know, I know, I just went on and on how I loved all of King’s brilliant descriptions, but at some parts they seemed to become unnecessary. I got bored at some of the parts that I was just not interested in. For example, the description of Stan’s wife’s life. She wasn’t a major part of the storyline; therefore, I really didn’t care to hear about her life. I thought some parts like the one I just described could have been cut out entirely. Also I feel the need to mention one specific scene that just did not sit well with me, mainly because the ages of the characters at this point in the novel. I’m not going to go into detail about it because after all this is a spoiler-free review, but I do believe this one scene was just absolutely disgusting. If you’ve read the book, you know what scene I’m talking about. The scene that brings The Loser’s together. (Sorry for the vague description!) Besides that, I have no complaints of this brilliantly written book. I was hooked from beginning to end. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to fans of Stephen King or fans of horror novels.

My favorite book of all time. I've read 14 times and who knows how many more times I'll read it again! King creates a world where you feel the eyes of a being of unimaginable horror on you as you follow the lives of a group of childeren who come together to face a creature that has haunted their town and hunted it's children for years upon years. You will not find a better book that creates such a electric tingling atmosphere that you will catch yourself reading way past the hour you said you would put it down at.

If you know where you want to get married in Vegas already, then you should not bother with this book. IF you do not have a location in mind, then this book is for you, but a bit outdated. You can find most if not all of this informaiton online, but if you like a book to hold in your hands then this is a good book to have.It did not suit me because I had previously researched the location and place and decided where I wanted to be married. The book didn't give me anything that I didn't already have.

Obviously the internet helped more, but I did find this book pretty helpful in planning our destination wedding ceremony in Las Vegas. We got married at the Top of the Stratosphere in May 2009. Very fun read and I recommend this book on several bride websites for Las Vegas weddings.

This is a great book for anyone planning or thinking of planning a Vegas wedding. Full of great reviews on all locations for ceremonies and receptions. Comes highly recommended

Ken Van Vechten has written a book that tells us everything we would want to know about how to get arried in Las Vegasand what kind of experience it would be. The book is thoroughly up to date and even has the new 1 billion dollars WYNN Hotel erected by Steve Wynn. The author says this is his first book but his writing style is so slick and stylish that immediately it clicks, makes you want to go there and share in the fun and who knows, propose? He goes to every wedding chapel on the strip and beyond, and rates them for their various amenities, including if there is a dressing room available for the bride (and//or the groom)-something that will come in extremely useful. Along the way he tells funny stories, some scandalous, about the different celebrity weddings held in these chapels over the years. Remember when Britney Spears got married the first time-to a "friend"? You'll hear the inside scoop here.But it's not just about weddings. Through the magic of Van Vechten's prose you'll feel like you're driving in an open convertible right through the heart of the world's most improbable real estate. He even suggests free things you might like to do if you're there on a budget. He tells you the best ways to book rooms at the hotels, and he discusses why the square foot rate of the average Vegas hotel room is so different than the general rate prevalent in all of America. (It's bizarre!) The little sidebars along are worth the price of this book. And there's more about weddings themselves than most people know: did you realize that every flower in the bride's bouquet has some arcane significance? Ken Van Vechten does and he provides a list to help you deconstruct the arrangement!

My fiance and I are going to Las Vegas in May to tie the knot. I was so excited to find this book! It gives totally complete reveiws of each and every chapel and rates them in a fun and informative way using grades such as "Kitch Factor" and "Romance Quotient" along with hours and costs etc. Every chapel is listed....there are separate sections for stand alone chapels and those in the casinos. It gives history of the chapels and little quirks, if Elvis is in the building, or the more traditional. There are all kinds of tips along the way, and at the end is some info on great restaurants and entertainment. I have read it cover to cover and am so glad it came into my life at the right time. It has made my planning MUCH easier! If you are getting married Vegas Style you NEED this book!

This is a great guide to getting spliced in Lost Wages. Van Vechten has a nice style - He's very informative, but keeps things light and humorous. Even if you're not planning on getting married anytime soon, it's a fun read and a good addition to your Vegas library.

Out of all the books I read on weddings in Vegas, this one was the best! It had everything I wanted to know about the locations and accomodations. Well worth the money if you plan on getting married there, but don't know what chapel to choose.

I enjoy this book, I first checked it out from the library and knew I needed my own copy. I am a huge fan of Louise Hay after reading this book and have some of her other works. Great for anyone on a spiritual path longing to connect with themselves and bring a sense of love and ease into their lives :) Affirmations are truly transformative!

This book changed my life. I know you've heard that said about a lot of books and I'm sure there are other fine books out there. But this one,You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay, is the motherbook from which all others evolved. I was introduced to it in 1990, 26 years ago, when I was 42. At the time I was reeling from a pessimistic cancer diagnosis, the end of my marriage, and the development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I'm almost 69 and this is the book that showed me how to live with and through all that and more. I've given away at least a hundred of these books and this one went to my new friend, Tina, who is excited about the changes in her life she has already made. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This was one of the hardest books I've ever read. This little book took me forever to finish. Not that the writing was hard to digest. It was the work and activities and reflections to make the corrections to bring healing. Which is all still a work in progress. Hey, I've lived 47 years of being broken so I can't expect to heal all that hurt instantly, but this gave me a great starting point and great tools to begin the work.It actually IS working too. I'm choosing to respond to situations differently, and to even look at them differently.My favorite example to tell people from the principles I learned in this book is being on a plane for over 3 hours with a crying baby. No, not crying. Wailing at the top of his or her lungs. As you can imagine, EVERYONE, including myself, was irritated. Some more openly so than others. But I came to a part in this book that talked about giving love to difficult people and situations and giving what you want to receive.So I started sending healing, loving thoughts to that poor baby and the mom. Because I knew she did NOT want to be THAT person, right? The one with the crying, inconsolable child. So I closed my eyes and just sent loving white, calming light to both of them. And prayers for comfort and calm.Guess what happened? The baby stopped crying. Did my thoughts do it? I'm sure what actually happened was the poor kid tuckered him/herself out from all that bawling, BUT...it erased my irritation and made me feel better. It felt good to give, even anonymously, like that. Much better to put positive energy into the world rather than feeding the negative.This book will be one I'll have to reread and revisit from time to time. And the work/exercises are still ongoing. Some I haven't had the courage to try yet. But I'm glad a yoga teacher mentioned this book in passing. It was an answer to an unspoken prayer to be led to a path of healing. I love it. I just wish Louise was still around for me to tell her I'm among her legions of fans now.

This book gave me the key to release all things negative. It took me six months. For years or decades I have struggled with depression. Every ten to twelve years it haunted me again and again - the past. I cannot stress too much that this small book contains the key 'I am willing to release ...". It sounds so easy and it is so easy. This key in conjunction with the 'Power of Now' from Eckart Tolle (books, youtube) was the way for me out of this vicious circle.I hope this review helps others to stumble upon it - it is so worth it. Everybody who is looking for the way out of these vicious circles knows what I am talking about. This finally worked for me.I am so thankful that Louise Hay brought it into the world.

I bought this book on a recommendation of a friend, thinking I would like to create a more positive attitude from within myself. But, after perusing the contents, and as a nurse, I find this book to be completely without scientific merit, shaming, preposterous, and possibly even dangerous and damaging to someone naive enough to take it as fact. For example, author states that the reason for senility in the elderly is "Returning to the so-called safety of childhood. Demanding care and attention. A form of control of those around you. Escapism." And Alzheimer's is caused by "A refusal to deal with the world as it is. Hopelessness and helplessness. Anger.". A diagnosis of either of these problems is devastating both to the individual and to their families. But blaming the individual for a problem most people wouldn't wish on their worse enemy in such a way not only places a big steaming pile of guilt on the patient, it could also create a family dynamic that is non-supportive and possibly even dangerous. Abuse of the elderly with such diseases is a very real problem in some families. Imagine if caretakers truly believed the only reason Mom has senility or Alzheimer's is because of the above reasons.Or, suppose you are diagnosed with cancer. Well that's because of "Deep hurt. Longstanding resentment. Deep secret or grief eating away at the self. Carrying hatreds. "What's the use?"". I find that analysis to be deeply offensive - - not only to cancer patients and cancer survivors but to their families and caretakers and support systems. How dare she! This book is a complete load of crap. Also - interesting note: I was able to return it for a full refund it for a full refund with shipping paid for by labeling it as "defective". Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for positivity and life reform.

I was looking forward to this book because I believe in the holistic mind-body connection. However, this book is a bunch of made-up nonsense that encourages people to take responsibility for any harmful life experience and assigns mythical causes to every disease or physical symptom. I find this incredibly damaging and as a therapist and holistic practitioner I would NEVER recommend it to a client. Instead I recommend the works of either Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk or Dr. Carolyn Leaf.
